Yugo sks grenade launcher removal5/3/2023 Not worth paying a 'smith a ton of money to remove the GL and add a permanent brake on a $80 AIM shooter special. I like mine too much to sell.įWIW, being the lazy SOB I am, I took a Dremel tool and cut off the GL about 1/8" ahead of where the rifling starts. This mod removes the gun from being a C&R. Put on another permanent brake, FH etc or cut and crown and cut off the threaded part of the barrel. Anyhow, I would like to clean up the barrel by removing the grenade launcher ladder, front site and bayonet. If you remove the GL, don't leave any threads exposed. However I did have a nice conversation with Sterling Nixon about three years ago concerning certain mods to my Yugo SKS Can anybody clarify what the rules are on that? Then use a vise grip or pliers to remove the grenade launcher. Apply just enough heat to make water sizzle when flicked on. They are usually on pretty tight and require a small amount of heat from a propane torch to remove. It is a right hand thread (right tight and left loose). That's my understanding of it anyways.Īlso, I read here the other day that removing the grenade launcher *may* make it not classified as a C&R anymore, but there didn't seem to be much of a consensus IIRC. The grenade launcher is actually threaded on the barrel. The reason that I ask, is that there are special finishes on the market that are designed specifically for teak, since Teak tends to not like some finishes due to it's oily nature. I've stripped the stock on one of my Yugo SKS's and from the look of it and the way it sands, I think it may be Teak.
